Male & Female Fitting Explanation
Land Rover changed the front brake fitting partway through production. This page explains the two types, how to tell which your vehicle has, and what you need to order.
- Earlier Td5 & Tdi models: the front flexible hose has a male fitting. It screws onto the chassis bracket and is held with a lock nut.
- Later Td5 & Tdci models: the front flexible hose has a female fitting. It is held onto the chassis bracket with a small C-clip instead of a nut.
Look at where the front flexible hose meets the bracket on the swivel housing:
- Held on by a screw-on nut → you have the earlier male type
- Held on by a small C-shaped clip → you have the later female type

Straightforward – fits as it is
We make the front caliper hard lines for these. They come with a female connector that screws straight onto your male fitting, with a 180° bend already built in. Nothing else is needed – they fit as they are.
On the later female-fitting cars we can't simply make a male caliper hard line, because the 180° bend can't be made to work with the female setup. To fit braided caliper hard lines, the front needs converting to the earlier style.
- Fit our conversion hose – it has the earlier male fitting on one end and the later-style fitting on the other
- Swap the two brackets on top of the swivel housing for the earlier type (with a 10mm hole)
- Fit 2 new front flexi lines to suit those earlier brackets
- FRC7202 – swivel mount bracket
- FRC7201 – swivel mount bracket
